Bad Tapas

Peter D | Mar 4, 2002 03:20 PM

I went to the Tapas place at the intersection of Lincoln, Irving Park, and Damen on Friday evening. Even though the place was empty except for a table of two ladies, I could not convince my friend to leave to try another place.

First, the prices of the Tapas are all in the $6-7 range. This prohibits the greatest Tapas pleasure of ordering several dishes apiece. As we found out the the portions are not big enough to provide back end justification...its just over-charging. Cafe Iberico is much less expensive and its in the Gold Coast.

I ordered a dish I love at Iberico: Goat Cheese in Tomato Sauce. What I got was stale rounds of bread heaped (and I mean HEAPED) with raw minced garlic surronding a bowl of poorly spiced ketchup with a little goat cheese sprinkled on top. Even after dumping off the garlic, it was barely edible. The tortilla was also disappointing. We ran away rather than try our luck with other less appealing choices.

My friend summed it up pretty well..."I guess that's why they can stay open serving only 4 people on a weekend evening."
