So, Sidewalk cafe in the East Village is doubtless no Chowhound restaraunt, but I had to share this terrible experience with SOMEBODY. Last night, two friends and I went to Sidewalk at about 8:00. We ordered soon after we sat down, the waitress brought out a beer and then we waited for about 1/2 an hour. We didn't get the guacamole & chips one of us had ordered, and my friend went inside to find out where our food was. It turned out the order had just been put in. Maybe ten minutes later a guy who was not our original waiter brought us the chips. Humorously, I said "those had better be some good tortilla chips." and he actually raised his voice and said "you just got here. and the waitress came back three times before you were ready to order!!!" Not the case, my friend insisted & before you know it, she and this guy were yelling at each other - He kept insisting that we had just arrived, when we knew that we had been there for forty minutes.
We paid for the beer that I had finished (and I'm not a fast drinker) and left. Ugh! never again. I hope the food there isn't good, because the waiter was so rude I'll never go back. Has anyone else out there had a similar experience? I worked in restaraunts for years, and I've never seen anything like that.
