Bad meals at Good Thai Restaurants

I have had a couple of "good-to-great" meals at Ubol's Kitchen on Steinway -- but also one or two horrendous ones. These were not in any sort of logical succession. But it does seem like the mediocre has pretty much become the norm there. Feh. Probably never going back unless I hear something good.

I have also had some "almost good-to-semi-sketchy" dishes at Sripraphai, to be honest. The place is mostly great/excellent but the line-up is not as omnipotent as you might think from reading posts on this board. Triple-fried crispy pork left me feeling like I just sucked on car exhaust. always bland noodle dishes, in my experience. Most curry dishes are excellent though, don't get me wrong!

Thai Pavillion used to be tasty gringo thai a long time ago. I stopped going there 2 years ago after several mediocre takeout experiences. Seemed like it went way downhill after they renovated.

So far decent experiences from Thai Angel. The gringo vibe is almost a plus because my girlfriend was skeeved out by Sripraphai. I can't get her back there. Luckily my daughter loves Sripraphai, especially the bland noodle dishes!! At least I can always go back there with her!
