Bad Experience at Tommy's today (long)

I love Tommy's but don't eat there very often, because, well, it's not exactly the healthiest food. So when I heard about the 60th anniversary special, I decided to go ahead and go since it's been a while since I've had one of their burgers.

I first saw the special mention here on CH, and then went to the Tommy's website to see if it included all locations. In the Ask Tommy section, someone had asked if it was for all the locations, and the reply was yes, it was for all Original Tommy's locations.

so this morning, just to make sure, I called my local Tommys (Topanga Cyn and Sherman Way) and asked specifically "Are you doing the Anniversary Special Cheeseburger and soda for 60 cents?" and the guy said "yes, from noon to eight". So I packed my 2 year old and 6 month old in the car and off we went.

There were only 4 cars in the drive through ahead of me, which was a little surprising, but I figured it was because it was only 12:15. When I got to the order window, I ordered 2 Anniversary Specials and was about to order an order of chili fries when the guy says "you can't get the Anniversary Special unless you order an order of fries with each special". So I said fine, one order of chili fries and one order of regular fries. Then he says "OK, did you want the small drink for $1.30 or the medium for $1.40?" I was really confused at this point and said "Aren't you doing the cheeseburger and soda for $.60?" He says "yeah, but you have to buy fries and a drink at regular price and then you get the burger for 60 cents." (Keep in mind that this isn't what he told me less than 30 seconds ago!). So I said "so you aren't doing the anniversary special as advertised in the papers? I called and was told you are doing it". He says "I guess not, you wanna order or not?" I said "No I don't think you know what you're talking about" and drove off (no one in front of me in the drive thru by then).

This was just ridiculous. The newspapers said it was only at the Beverly/Rampart location, the Tommy's website said it was at all locations, when I called the Topanga location they said one thing, and then when I was ordering they said something else. I really used to like Tommy's, but this left a very bad taste in my mouth. Seems like the location manager is trying to rack up sales. They just lost me as a customer. :(
