Bad bear claw @ Chestnut St. Bakery

Melanie Wong | Dec 11, 200312:46 PM

Found myself in the vicinity of Chestnut Street Bakery this morning and thought I'd pop in and try the brioche recommended by Mrs. Smith. But alas, no brioche this morning.

Eyed the croissants, but they were larger than what I like. Almost got the apple strudel, but the bit of apple spilling out the end looked suspect. I asked if the filling was canned apples, and the counter clerk said it was a mix of canned and fresh. A non-starter.

So, ended up with a bear claw for $1.75. Bready rather than made from butter pastry. Also, must be aimed at marzipan-haters as it had next to no almond paste filling. Put this on the list of things to avoid here.
