I was dying to try Babbo for my birthday, but alas, no reservations available. We were on vacation on the date I had to call to get them, and who could remember when we were eating so well in Las Vegas, to call home for another dinner? Anyway, I was told to try coming around 5pm for a walk-in.
We may do this, but I'm not very hopeful because while we may eventually get a table, I don't want to be waiting around for hours for the table.
Any other suggestions in the West Village, that you may not need reservations for, which we could walk over to in the event we can't get into Babbo? We used to live in the city but haven't in a few years, so we're out of touch with the restaurant scene for the most part.
Doesn't have to be italian necessarily. But would like it to be "special" in some way, not someplace cheap and quick.
