Awesome potato pancakes at Mani's bakery

Jeff Shore | Mar 8, 2002 04:40 PM

As experienced latke makers, we consider ourselves quite picky in the potato pancakes department. Mani's (on Fairfax) has a smashing, unique version.

These are not glorified hash browns (not that there's anything wrong with that.) Shredded "yukon gold" potatoes with egg, onion, and cream combine into something that really looks like a pancake. It's big, it's thick, and it could be mistaken for bisquick.

Not by taste, however. Incredibly rich tasting (I thought it had parmasean cheese), but not overly filling or heavy. Moist and chewy and quite delicious. For $6.50 you get three -- which is more than enough -- but it doesn't come with much in the way of side dishes.
