Avoid! NEKTAR in Naples (long rant)

Benny Coma | Feb 20, 200612:14 AM

I heard good things about Necktar, on 7th ave S. in Naples. In fact I read good things on this very site. (a vouche from a Hound! has to be a good place! right?) Well, that was not the case. The place was almost terrible. I have had better food, service and drinks at (dare I say it!) places like Cheesecake Factory!!

Ok back to Nektar, we arrived and thought we were in for a treat, the place is very nice outside, it had a decent crowd people seemed to be having fun.. etc.
Downhill from there--
The signature drink "the nektar" was a watery mimosa for $15 bucks. sheesh.

I ordered the stuffed squid appetizer, my wife ordered the beef carpachio.. and we waited......and .... waited.

more waiting

the people next to us paid and left and another couple sat, ordered and got their appetizers BEFORE us. I kindly told the waiter to 'check on my aps' he came back and said that the 'stuffed calamari takes a bit longer to prepare' I doubt anything takes that long- maybe watching The Godfather Part2... table next to us finished thier aps.... this better be good..
Turns out, the stuffed calamari is practially inedible. No flavor to it , I have never tasted anything so bland. I used the salt shaker for the first time at a restaurant that didnt serve fries. The beef carp looked so boring I didnt even bother tasting. did I mention the calamari was cold? Not on purpose.
Thats when we noticed patrons sending back dishes. Two tables did it(there was alot of time to look observe!).

We were the third table to return both our entrees. my Salmon was pathetically small and just cold. Her pork stew was "room temerature". I waved over one of the owner guys, he took the plates back and in about 5 minutes brought back two more acceptable selections. The fish was cooked well that time. Nothing to write home about just a well cooked piece of medium rare salmon much like you would make at home. I ate it(with a touch of salt!) the Mrs' pork stew with cous cous was fine. and thats it! Oh lets see... the something pudding desert was not good , I dont reccomend it.stay away .

Finally I must tell you, no one apologized for any inconvenience. One of my worst dining experiences in years. And for the price I expect good service and edible food!! Im not cheap, I seek out good food experiences at any price range .. sometimes you hit sometimes you miss. But it sucks missing by so much in one place. Get outta here!
