I finally got around to writing a note to Dan Young, Owner of John Andrews Restaurant. Unfortunately I did not hear back from anyone at the restaurant. The purpose of my letter was to be sure they knew of the unpleasant experience we encountered there. The appetizers were not prepared properly (globs of vinaigrette in a salad which was overdressed; shrimps with portions of shells attached). One main was swimming in huge pool of olive oil. At each bite I wiped away the excess oil. In terms of the salad the manager offered to add more greens to the salad. We were surprised that the dishes were not returned to the kitchen and re-prepared. I did not bother complaining as I was felt the server and manager were not attentive to our dining experience.
In terms of the service, we were surprised about the lack of attention to the detail to the dishes and the manager’s overall attitude. While polite, she seemed ungracious and dismissive to us. I would not expect this kind of service at a highly regarded dining establishment with hefty prices (we paid over $130 for our meal). The manager was alerted by our displeasure about the appetizers by the waitress and approached our table by asking ‘what seems to be the issue’? She should have acknowledged that we were not satisfied with the dishes instead of asking for us to repeat what we already had relayed to our server. I replied by asking ‘Did our server not inform you about the issues?’ She rarely smiled and seemed very unaccommodating to us. Outside of suggesting more greens be added to my salad she did not have our appetizers returned to the kitchen.
The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated. We ate in the back with the many windows. We arrived just as the sun was setting. It is unfortunate that the food and service were very lacking in our case since we were hoping for a dining experience which matched the décor of the restaurant.
I'm not sure why I didn't get a reply to my letter. But I won't be going to back there that is for sure.
