(Austin) New Restaurant Review: Zin

This place is on Kirby Lane just north of the dreaded Kerby Lane Cafe.

Outside the cafe was a banner touting the fabulous happy hour, so I asked the hostess if there were any happy hour food specials and she helpfully pointed out which appetizers on the menu were half price (not all of them qualified). We each had a salad (very good, especially the ceasar), and then shared three appetizers (just so-so). When the check came the appetizers were charged full price, and when I pointed out the mistake the waiter became irate and demanded to know where I heard that. He grudgingly refigured the bill, and never did explain the mix-up. I suppose the discount was only available at the bar. Anyway, I felt uncomfortable and probably wont go back soon.

That said, the food looked attractive coming out of the kitchen. The prices were higher than a SoCoCafe (see below), and the clientele dressier.
