New Austin restaurant review: Athenian Grill

We ate dinner there tonight and loved the palce. It serves Greek food, a cuisine I am not particularly wild about, but everything here was very, very good. It is at 705 Colorado Street, open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday. Phone # 482-8988.

Domestic partner had one of the two vegetarian plates, which included soup and salad, $9.99. I had the Greek Sampler: salad, roasted chicken, gyro, mousaka, dolmades, tzatziki, keftedes, tiropita, and rice pilaf, $12.99. Keftedes are meatballs, and I do not like restaurant meatballs as a rule, but these were outstanding. The mousaka was a delight, even the rice pilaf was a notch above any I can recall.

On a Saturtday night downtown most places have a long wait, but this one had lots of empty tables. It is a new favorite of ours, so please get the word out: it is terrific. Very good service, great food, generous servings at a reasonable price.
