Okay, so, at Christmas, my 4 year old niece and I baked cookies together. With SPRINKLES. It was pretty exciting.
We were using the special ocean buddies cookie cutters that had been given to her, since ocean buddies are her favourite, and we carefully cut out a whole bunch of sharks and dolphins and manatees. Some we made plain to decorate later, some we made with sprinkles. They were lovely.
And then we baked them and they ran all over and smooshed together and we ended up with a giant pan that was a single cookie, because Auntie Jacqui didn't pay attention when she picked a sugar cookie recipe and the one she used for the dough wasn't meant for rolling out like that. Grandma sorta rescued the second batch by kneading more flour into the dough, but they still weren't great.
So now my niece is flying cross country to visit me at my house, and I'd like to make cookies with her again, but get it right this time. Obviously I have googled 'cookie cutter cookie' recipe, and I have many examples of the genre, but I'm trying to make up for my previous inadequacies here, so I'd really like to be certain. I don't have any ocean buddies, but I did borrow some cookie cutters with hearts and flowers and all the letters of the alphabet.
Hounds, do you have a favourite, tried-and-true, definitely used it many times, holds shape perfectly sugar cookie recipe for using with cookie cutters?
