Aunt Momo's Wine Country Ranch Cooking launched a catering service last month. Chef Mara Roche named her business Aunt Momo, after the name her young niece called her when she was unable to pronounce Mara. I befriended Mara through the wildfire emergency food relief effort at No Pay Cafe/Cafe Gratis. She was the backbone behind the kitchen operations, organizing the volunteers and ensuring food safe practices. I'm grateful to her and her family's Roche Winery, for their service to the people of Sonoma during the crisis and plan to support their businesses.

Mara describes her catering niche as platter delivery service. Her aim is to offer an affordable option without minimum order limits to supply birthday parties, family picnics and other casual affairs with locally sourced, ready-to-serve platters of freshly prepared party food.

On the 4th of July, I attended the party at Roche Winery and had the chance to try some of the offerings from the current monthly menu (linked on the home page). I especially loved the Wasabi deviled eggs, spiked with Japanese horseradish and topped with bright orange, crunchy tobiko and the Caprese salad skewers with cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella bocconcini and fresh basil for the colors of the Italian tri-color. The unoaked Roche chardonnay was a lively and refreshing quaff well-suited for the heat of the day.
