This place, August Gathering, sort of bends space time continuum, in a very sort of good and fascinating way.
Take third-wave coffee shop, combine with a heavy dose of Hakkasan style dishes, that's balanced out by old-school NYC street-corner Cantonese takeout joint and you'll essentially have created August Gathering.
It is, for lack of a better word, a GMO restaurant. (Hat tip to Monsanto)
Where else can you start your morning with a bowl of congee spiked with quality conpoy and garnished with pungent Thousand Year Old Eggs, paired with a donut from Dough (yes, Dough!), and then wash it all down with a cup of La Colombe coffee?
Or, if it suits your pleasure, you could pivot your day with lunch made of fusion-style wasabi glazed shrimp, mozzarella spring rolls, and capped off with a fried taro log for dessert and a tray of fresh baked egg tarts just because you're thinking about running the NYC Marathon in November.
And don't forget they have traditional set dinner menus, banquet style, which if you so desire, you can order a round of latte for the your entire dinner party as a total nightcapper.
I guess we're not in Kansas anymore ...
