I ate a Fade St. Social 3 times when I was in Dublin

Obviously I liked it, and would recommend it to others visiting the city. As you might already know, there are two restaurants run by the same chef in the same building. One side focuses on grilled or braised meats plus lush side dishes, and the other specializes in creative "tapas". `We only had one of the meals at the "tapas" side, but I think I preferred that menu overall. That said, I had exquisite oysters and other delicious food on the meatier side of the operation, plus good cocktails and wine. The meatier side of the operation appeared especially good if you were with a crowd interested in sharing some of their huge plates of grilled meat. If you are a couple, the tapas side works extremely well.

Both spaces get quite noisy with lively Irish voices, and both are very busy. The staff was tremendous in handling the bustle and being friendly and attentive. It's a full team operation, with precise moves. We never felt rushed despite, but we never had to wait for food or refilled glasses or the check. I think reservations are probably a must.

It was super-convenient to our hotel (the Brooks -- which I booked for its onsite restaurant, in case the weather was awful, but when I arrived at the hotel, the kitchen restaurant wasn't serving full meals for the duration of my and I was offered only a small unappetizing menu of bar food. So Fade St Social really pulled through for us. Same chef (Dylan McGrath) has another restaurant in Dublin, the Rustic Stone, which we didn't try.

We also had a excellent set lunch at The Winding Stair (but why is the bookstore below considered a tourist attraction???) We had lunch at Matt the Thresher and ended up feeling we'd ordered wrong, so am reluctant to hold the restaurant responsible for that. We went for lunch not realizing the menu would be so focused on lunch-y type dishes of salads and sandwiches (doh!), and none of the daily specials appealed. I think if we had asked the waiter if it was possible to get a simple grilled fresh fish like we'd been hoping for, they probably would have been perfectly happy to make that for us. Instead, we ordered fried shrimp and chips off the menu and it just wasn't very interesting. My partner had the seafood chowder, which is a signature dish for the restaurant, and he said it was excellent.
