I hate to admit it because I am not a fan of her writing, but her review of Asiate is right on. I had lunch there today with a group of friends and I would disagree with her on only one thing - I don't even think the room is that great. Granted, today was a lousy day, and I'm sure the skyline at night adds a dramatic hilight, but the decor is really cold, and the lounge area, which is the only part I would consider returning to, feels like an Air France first class departure lounge. I was almost expecting to see discarded boarding passes.
As for the food, it was disapointing. The char app. was underseasoned, the noodles under the prawns ( as predicted ) were gummy, though the flavor was nice, the duck confit was okay; there just wasn't anything sparkling. It just seems off in some way. The best dessert - and I love dessert - was the earl grey creme brulee, which they sent as a gift.
Bottom line - as other posters have said - go for a drink.
( I also have to say that the whole mall-ish feeling of the Time Warner complex creeps me out a bit. I kind of hate that it's in New York; first there were the flower baskets on the lamp posts, then the signs pointing out landmarks, now this....it makes me a little nervous. )
