Took advantage of a day off to venture to Victory Blvd & Cebra, to check out New Asha a few years after Sietsma deemed it the best Asian in NYC.
I was initially disappointed that they didn't have hoppers for the lunch menu, but we got a variety of dishes with white rice that were pretty good and made up for it. There was a dish a diced greens that was fresh and had a pert mustardy spice to it. Mutton curry eaten with nan bread with egg in the middle to cut the spice was really good. Pumpkin curry was slightly creamy, but not overly so, and a red onion curry with crushed red pepper was terrific, even if my breath was terrible afterward.
The last time I was around there, the neighborhood seemed more Sri Lankan, but this time it seemed more heavily Albanian; I saw about three burek joints at that corner that looked interesting. Curious if anyone's checked them out.
