Artisan in Southport Christmas Dinner....A Lump of Coal in My Stocking.......

tito | Dec 27, 2012 08:17 AM

I have enjoyed dining at Artisan over the past few months so for my Christmas Dinner I booked a table at 7PM.

Maybe I should have stayed home.........

The menu consisted of an Amuse Bouche

A Choice of 5 Appetizers, 5 Entrees and 5 Desserts

We sat down promptly at 7pm and ordered 2 glasses of Prosecco, the waiter asks "sparkling or regular water"? My wife replies "tap is fine" and the waiter shoots a quick but sharp glance at her.

After enjoying the Prosecco for a few minutes the waiter comes over to take our order and announces that the Game Hen has been sold out and there is only 1 order of Prime Rib left.

( For a restaurant to run out of 40% of their entree items at 7PM shows me that something is off here. )

Determined to have a good night we press on.....

I order the crab cake and my wife the brussels sprout salad.

I order the Salmon and my wife orders the same and asks for the fish to be cooked through (no rareness) and sauce on the side.

We order a bottle of wine and relax. After seeing that everyone else around us is getting their Amuse Bouche my wife comments that she think they forgot about ours........20 minutes later, still no Amuse. I call the waiter over and he then bring out our Amuse and no more than 10 seconds later our first course appears while we are enjoing our Amuse.
The appetizers were tasty though.

The entrees arrive and to our disssapointment my wifes fish comes out rare and with the sauce on it! Again we call the waiter over and he wisks the dish back to the kitchen for repair. I will say my fish was excellent, but now we are begining to realize this will not be a good night.

After reading the menu online weeks before the event, my wife was dreaming of the ginger cake that was on the menu.......guess what?
You got it, they ran out of the ginger cake.

My wife grudgingly orders the cookie plate and I order the chocolate dipped something or other. We kick back and look forward to finishing the rest of our wine with dessert.

After a few minutes the waiter returns......." Sir, we are out of the chocolate dipped somrthing or other too, I am sorry"........

Now I start to really get dissapointed with the entire evening. I order the cheese cake.

Less that 10 seconds pass and my cheese cake arrives, but my wifes cookie plate is M.I.A..........

We wait 10 minutes, the waiter must have walked past our table at least 3 or 4 times.....still nothing. Finally I ask the the waiter for the cookies and he goes to the kitchen for them.

I excuse myself and seek out the manager, he is not on property (obviously!) so I speak with what seems to be an assistant manager. This person was very professional and handled the situation extremely well and promised to have someone contact me asap.

As of today I have yet to hear from anyone and at this point I doubt I will.

This was a very unfortunate experience at an establishment that has done so much better in the past.
