The Archer Ale House [Bellingham, WA]

I have been here on several occasions before- really good variety of gastro- pub style "bar" food and huge offers for beer and whiskey drinks, admittedly a more limited wine selection- but really cozy atmosphere. It has never been totally "stellar" but always enjoyable.

I went yesterday (a Saturday afternoon). What a HUGE disappointment! The beer and whiskey lists are still good but the wine list had almost nothing "drinkable" on it. Wow.

It took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. There were only three other couples in the entire place. The first item I ordered they were out of. We had an order of chicken wings with the "special sauce" and ordered sliders...ooops...out of the duck confit slider. Okay, then a wagyu beef and a BLT slider. The 45 minute wait included a second drink order placed and arrived -before our measly, simple order of food did.

The wings were small, dry, bland and required copious amounts of "special sauce" to moisten them. We ordered more sauce...ooops...out of that now. She gave us a blue cheese dressing instead. The sliders were TINY. I am not kidding when I say there was only 1 piece of small, "fried to death" bacon on the "BLT" one and a Tablespoon of ground beef on the Wagyu beef one.

Clearly, the person in the kitchen was not a regular cook. I am not sure why they were out of "staple" ingredients and menu items. The waitress looked as if she didn't give a rip anyway. I am hoping it is just an "off day" and it will be a decent place to go again-to sit and grab a beverage and a bite- between Fairhaven adventures.
