Aquavit review - Great food, incompetent timing and crappy seatings

streamwise | Dec 24, 2004 01:27 AM

Anyone have problems with Aquavit's current kitchen? We did the bites menu (14+ course) with wine tonight. Overall the food was very good to outstanding...however the kitchen and staff seemed intent on rushing the meal, to the point that it seemed no one with any real restaurant experience was in charge..although the sommelier was great, I often ended up with two wines being served simultaneously since the kitchen was bringing out plates before we were done with the previous course! This is *completely* unacceptable in a restaurant of this caliber, and quite hard to understand. Given that I'm in the NYC food industry myself, I would expect that the kitchen staff would have far better timing skills...this was defintely amateur night and extremely frustrating/disappointing, as the staff still seemed oblivous even when we suggested they slow down (4 courses in 15 minutes...are you kidding!). All this, plus, despite making reservations a month in advance, they gave us crappy seats at the bottom of the stairs rather than the atrium (guess anonymous = bad at this restaurant) This place has definitely been blackballed in my book, and all of my industry friends....
