I havent been to Aquagrill in about two years. I have seen mixed reviews on this board in that time, but decided to take my friend there for his birthday regardless to see for myself. They did not disappoint! The staff was a sharp as ever and as attentive as could be (but not overbearing). The food was delicious, the raw bar fresh and the espresso strong!
We began with an order of the Dungeness Crab Cakes Napoleon. They were moist and flavorful and everything a good crab cake should be. A second appetizer of herring was ordered, which was Saturday nights special. It was served like caviar, with chopped egg, red onion, chives, etc... and really surprised me, as I have not too fond memories of herring from childhood. This wasnt your mothers herring!
We werent sure which oysters to order, and our sommelier as well as our server helped us navigate the oyster selection, picking three that really contrasted each other nicely. As for our raw bar selection, we chose four of each: Wellfleet oysters, Savage Island oysters (PEI), and Kumamoto oysters (California). They were all lovely, and being the first time I had tried the Kumamoto oysters, I was impressed.
As for our meals, we ordered the truffle crusted Chatham Cod, diver scallops and the white salmon, which was the special that night. All were amazing, fresh, and perfectly cooked. Not a flaw in the whole meal, from entrance to exit.
I havent seen any mention of Aquagrill on this board in a while. Dont overlook it, it truly is a seafood gem in Soho.
