Ah, I love the smell of nuoc nam in the morning. Amidst all these talk of pho on various CH boards recently, I just wanted to share my favorite pho spot in Saigon (no one uses the term "Ho Chi Minh City" outside officialdom there): Pho 2000 on Tran Hung Dao, just next to Ben Thanh Market. It's claim to fame was that Bill Clinton had dined there (he's one prolific diner, isn't he?).
I found Pho 2000's Pho Bo to be simple & tasty. The fact that it's opened from 7am thereabouts for breakfast was a plus (unlike Pho24 which does a roaring trade during lunch-times). I didn't try the Pho Bo Dac Biet which, besides the obligatory beef slivers, comes with beef balls, tendon & other miscellaneous parts.
The Caffe Sua Da (iced milk coffee) was sickly sweet & the perfect pick-up to get your day going.
