I posted a few weeks ago if anyone knew what Philadelphia Chicken was, since I passed Gristede's on University Place at 8th Street and their awning has this advertised. I passed again with time to investigate. At first I thought I was in the twilight zone because the awning was gone. Then I saw they had hung it inside the store by the deli counter. I went over to ask the deli personnel. They told me it was simply chickens that were raised in Philadelphia. Who knew the chicken of my childhood (I grew up there) was so esteemed by New Yorkers?
I still don't really get it- I know want to know who at Gristede's thinks this is a big enough deal that they signed off to pay the awning guy to paint "Philadelphia Chicken" on it.
