At last got into annisa, 13 barrow st (b/w west 4th and bleeker) 741-6699. Dinner a couple of nights ago was very fine.
amuse bouche: veal with tuna sauce in pastry shell. Wonderful.
As: Plainly presented juicy grilled shrimp with coconut. Foie gras dumplings with broth-these were terrific! Two others: mixed greens and lobster ravioli both described a "lovely", tho I did not try.
Ms: I had monkfish with sweetbreads in reduction with capers. Despite the textures being somewhat similar, this combination of tastes really worked. Rabbit with bacon was superb. 2 others had sauted white fish with spring peas. Described as delicious. (Menu has an emphasis on fish)
Ds: Too full to try any.
The restaurant is small, simply decorated. Tables well apart. Service pretty attentive.
We used to go to mirezi quite a lot where annisas chef Anita Lo used to be. The food at annisa is far superior (richer, more substantial) to mirezi's in my view. I agree with Aaron Tell who went here last year that this is a little gem.
Price range: mains are mid-high 20's.
