Animal... similar to NYC's Momofuku Ssam?

Hi again all!

So, I've been researching Animal for a dinner while I'm out in LA this weekend and it looks like it's gonna be a go (if I can talk my dining companions into it!) Keep your fingers crossed for me cuz I'm really excited about trying this place with all the great reviews I've read on here! Hell, I may even ditch them and go by myself :)

Just a few quick questions. First, do they take reservations?? If they do... are they hard to get? Say, for a party of 4 on Saturday around 7-8ish? And also, after browsing the menu and reading about the place... how would you compare it to Momofuku Ssam Bar in NYC (for someone who's familiar with that restaurant)? It seems to have the same sort of vibe and set up. A bit cramped, a bit loud, very busy and maybe even a bit trendy? and serving up some serious deliciousness! Best to share a bunch of small plates and maybe a few large ones? Does this sound about right?

Trying to get a good feel of this place, so I can sell it to my people :) They're not really into the fancy pants food, places, sort of thing and definitely not into a "scene"... but we ALL appreciate a good meal, which I don't doubt we'll get there!

Anyways, once again thanks for any help, Chowhounds of LA!
Cheers.
