I thought Id introduce myself with the dish thats on my mind today. Ive searched back a couple pages on this board and was surprised to find no mention (at least in thread titles) of Andres. I've been going here over 40 years and think that for the money (heavily stress this phrase) this Italian place cannot be beat. Theyve always had a daily special but I recently discovered their Tuesday lambshanks. I have yet to find another version in L.A. that can compare with it at any price. This is a shank to die for-huge, tender, meaty and slow-braised in a super thick, dark wine-y sauce. It is very rich and filling but not fatty, and you can have it over either pasta or rice. I would venture to say one order could theoretically feed two--but dont really recommend it as you will inevitably argue about who got the lions share. Just get separate orders for peace in the family and save any leftovers for Wednesdays lunch.
Those of you who know Farmer's Market and the Grove might already know Andres--it is across the street in the Town and Country minimall. Its actually a cafeteria-the only one in L.A. I can think of thats not downtown and not a chain. So theres little atmosphere but its super friendly and consistently high quality. And again, really inexpensive.
