Ok, I've been hearing about the tortas at Ana Maria's for years, and since I work walking distance from Grand Central Market, I figured it was high time to try one.
I've had the tacos there before whenever I was there during non-lunch hours and they are pretty good, but never a torta or gordita. So, I got the carne asada torta con todo and a carnitas gordita con todo. I also got their salsa roja on the side. Just a massive amount of food.
The torta was very good, but the asada was not the the real crispy, heavily spiced almost burnt type I like. But with all the rest of the ingredients a top notch sandwich none the less.
I was pretty full after the torta but that gordita was staring at me and I dug in. OMG was that a good gordita. Lots of crispy pork stufed into a bread pocket. It had a really intense pork flavor with a good sauce and cilantro taste throughout. The salsa roja on top was a perfect add-on. I may have found my new favorite lunch item. The torta's a steal at 4.00 but for 2.50 a gordita, you can't beat it.
Look for me to be there about 3 days out of 5 for awhile.
