Wife's birthday so we thought we'd give Ame a go. We have eaten at Terra several times and been very happy so wanted to try the latest venture. Turned out to be an outstanding choice.
With our OpenTable reservation we were seated upon arrival. Very pretty room. We were seated at a two top against a wall which was almost all windows. There were 3 two tops there and spacing was great. During the evening both were filled and there was no coversations heard from either table. Most places would have probably put 4 tables in that space but not here. It also allowed the waiter to serve the table much easier.
Started with a glass of champagne each. Quickly you could see the quality of service as the flutes were brought to the table empty. The waiter brought the bottle of champagne to the table and filled the glasses. The same was true when we order glasses of wine with the entree. The stemware (nice stemware) arrived and then the waiter brought the bottles of the wine ordered. So, for those who might wonder if you "really get the wine" you order, there is no doubt here.
Started the evening with a sashimi dish “Lissa’s Staff Meal” Cuttlefish Noodles Tossed with Sea Urchin, Quail Eggs, Wasabi and Soy Sauce. What a great dish. We shared this but I could have eaten a whole order or more. The champagne went perfectly with it. The "cuttlefish noodles" were raw of course and had a wonderful flavor.
First courses were Foie Gras Tortelloni in Duck Broth with Shimeji Mushroom and Bloomsdale Spinach for my wife and Fried Soft Shell Crab on a Salad of String Beans and Soft Boiled Organic Egg with Sansho Pepper Sauce for me. Both were outstanding. I loved the soft shell, crisp and very flavorful as was the whole salad. My plate was cleaned. My wife loved the tortelloni, the duck broth being exellent. I had a bite and they had a great fois gras flavor. What a shame that this wonderful ingrediant will someday be unavailable to great chefs in the area. (Please, not trying to start a commentary here, just stating preferences)
Entrees, my wife had the Grilled Maine Lobster Tail and Hokkaido Scallops on Olive Oil Smashed Potatoes with Sorrel Lobster Sauce and Tomato Confit. The lobster was tender and wonderful but she just loved the smashed potatoes, to quote "some of the best I've ever had." Not trying to say the rest of the dish wasn't good as it was but many times dishes are served on mashed potatoes that are there pretty much as an after thought. These were not, they were a very important part of the dish.
I had a special of squab, roasted breast and leg confit. It was served on a bed of fresh porcini mushroom, Italian sweet pepper and white corn risotto. There was also a large sliced fresh porcini on top. This was great dish with the squab breast cooked rare and the legs crispy. The risotto was perfect, al dente with outstanding flavor.
Dessert was shared little donuts that were tasty.
Our waiter was excellent. Very nice, not "clingy" but there when he should have been. There was no waiting between dishes or for the check. As I said above, really enjoyed the service style of the wine by the glass. It's not inexpensive, dinner for two with the champagne, 2 wines, a coffee and the courses was $200 before tip. But, we had zero complaints.
Will be going back soon.
