My husband and I had a lovely lunch at Ame yesterday. The Hotel St. Regis has un upscale modern feel and the restaurant shares that feeling. Although yesterday, it was not even half full and so there was a more casual ambience for our visit. That does not mean that the service was inattentive as it was not. The lunch menu is similar to the dinner menu, just less items on it. I started with the "Kaisen" sashimi salad, which had wonderfully fresh smoked salmon, scallops, sea bream and tai snapper and some mizuma greens and salmon eggs. Quite delicious. I also had the Fried Miyagi Oysters in Lettuce Cups with Yuzu Mayonnaise. I love fried oysters and these were great, 6 plump, fresh oysers that exploded in my mouth. My husband had the Chowder of Maine Lobster with New Potatoes and Green Garlic. It was very rich, with nice big chunks of sweet lobster meat. For the main course I had the Grilled American Kobe Tagliata. It was a large, quite thinly punded steak with fried fingerling potatoes and more mizuna greens. I liked it, but it was somewhat bland and just a little salty. My husband had the trademark Broiled Sake Marinated Alaskan Black Cod and Shrimp Dumplings in Shiso Broth. This is a dish that we both loved from Terra restaurant and it did not disappoint. For dessert we split a cheesecake with a carrot cake crust and it was really tasty and light. Along with this we had a glass of sake, a lemonade and two coffees for $160 with tip and tax.
