Ambala Dhaba going downhill?

RZ | Apr 19, 200504:53 PM

I have been a regular patron at the Westwood location for more than a year. I would eat there on average of once a week and drag all my friends there. However lately there have been some changes for the worse.

The new menus (with increased prices) are nearly impossible to read. They are poorly designed. But that really is a minor gripe. We used to order at the counter, and then get our food out. Now we order at the table, and it takes slightly longer. Once again, a minor gripe. I find the new decor ugly, but that is a matter of taste.

The quality of the food seems to have deteriorated. My friend loves chicken saag there and gets it religiously. Last 2 times it was different. Can't put our finger on it- it was creamier, less flavorful. Less tasty. I like Ambala Vegetables, and the last time I got them it felt like they were soaked in vinegar for a few hours.

We mentioned the taste differences to the proprietor, asked him if he got a new chef or a new recipe. He said he did not. Since it happened several times I can only wonder whether they started using different ingredients.

I am saddened to see my regular haunt change so. I guess we will come there to try and see if the disappointments of past few visits were a fluke, but it will probably be crossed off the staples list.

Has anyone else noticed any changes?
