aluminum foil reaction to stuffed cabbage?

I made 80 rolls of stuffed cabbage today for the Jewish New year holidays, in 2 pans. One pan with higher sides came out fine. The second 9x12 had aluminum foil on the top as well. However the aluminum foil had eroded holes in it after I was finished cooking.

Is this a chemical reaciton to the aluminum foil resting on the sweet and sour (acidic) sauce? Is it ok to eat? Is there anything I should do before freezing it for the hoidays? I scraped off the black spots fom the top of the casserole and put it in the refrigerator for overnight. Thanks for your help.
