Hi all,

The last couple times I've gone in to Golden Deli (Las Tunas @ Mission), it's been really crowded, so yesterday, craving a good grilled pork w/ vermicelli, I just tried "Pho Super Bowl" just to the west and across Las Tunas (= Main St.). It was almost empty and really good - generous portion of meat, plus fresh shredded cucumber and carrot, fresh mint sprigs. I wouldn't recommend the grilled shrimp skewer - looked and tasted as if soaked in margarine. Ick.

Most surprising was fresh "Pennyroyal drink", a tall glass of thick, dull green juice that was unlike anything I've ever had. It was lightly sweet, with a very unusual grassy flavor that I still can't place. I wouldn't buy a gallon of it, but it was refreshing to try something really different.

They threw in a complimentary warm mung bean soup for dessert, which I rarely like, but this one was actually good with sort of a nutty tapioca flavor.

Will have to return for the pho.
