Hi, I have a question for those who have dined at Alinea before. I've been myself a couple times. Each time, I've enjoyed getting most payment done up front via Tock and not worrying about it at the restaurant (save beverages).
Last time I went, I took family and splurged on the Kitchen Table. It was of course very expensive. Worth it, but it was something I saved up for. And at the end of the meal, I got the usual check to sign. I noticed there was a space for additional gratuity above and beyond what was already paid for. I didn't know what to do as I hadn't really budgeted anything for it. I put $100 in, feeling like I was being a bit cheap although I knew that a 20% charge was already included in the bill.
Alinea's FAQ on Tock describes it like this:
"Additional gratuity paid on the evening of your reservation is at the discretion of each guest. 100% of any additional gratuity is paid to non-salaried, front of house employees who are directly in service of customers in strict accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act."
We're going back again soon and I was wondering if anyone else could share how they approached this.
