Went for the second time last night all on my lonesome. I loved it the first time, and figured it would be OK for one.
Was it EVER!
Service was A+++++ Alexis' wife, Fatima, took me under her wing as soon as she saw I wasn't happy with the first table they sat me at. I said NOTHING, she just saw my crestfallen face. She moved me to a nice table out of traffic but with a good view of the room.
I asked for the free pita and some oil as well as water, and it came out in minutes. Fatima then took my order herself as soon as she saw I was ready. She helped me out with tips and suggestions.
Trio of dips with Hummous, Taramasolata, and melitzanosalata. I ordered the better pita (toasted, chicago style, thicker, softer and yummmier) to dip in.
Htapodi-grilled octopus with spring onions in oil and vinegar
I wanted veggies, and went with Fatima's suggestion of the roasted vegetable salad.
For wine, I asked Fatima, a native of Portugal and expert on Portuguese wine, to find me a nice glass. She brought me the Eparao Reserva, a very nice red. Yes, it was expensive, but very good.
The dips came out pretty soon, and were smooth and creamy, perfect on the chicago style pita. The Htapodi came out right with the dips. It was cooked perfectly-not chewey, and was not drenched in oil, as some is. The spring onions were cooked, yet still crisp.
Fatima kept coming over now and again to see if I was OK. She knew just how often to check without being intrusive.
My roast veggie salad came out, and it was HUGE! Red and yellow peppers, zuccini, eggplant and tomoatoes with a few greens and Fatima's vinagrette. I greedily ripped pita, topped with dip, veggie, htapodi-YUM! The wine was a perfect match. During the meal, I watched as Alexis kept coming out of the kitchen to check on things
I am ashamed to say I ate it all! Fatima, who is as rail skinny as me, BEAMED, patted me on the back, and said, "Good, you ate it all. I always do, too. I'm proud" I'm not sure, but the waiters may have cheered. She smiled and said, "I know you won't probably want dessert!" In my satisfied daze, I mumbled "No, thank you..", but a helpful waiter came over and offered again, just to be sure.
All this food and fabulous service with a party of fifty in the place, as well as other customers.
I tell you, the place is GOLD, pure GOLD!!!
