Despite the fact that Warren is Michigan’s third largest city, the opening of any restaurant not aspiring just to be a small Denny’s, is big happenstance. Thus, Alexander’s Lebanese is off to a busy start, after opening several days ago at 13Mile and Schoenerr. While I may return for lunch, given their $3 sandwiches, the dinner was a disappointment:
Mixed Shawarma – tough and crappy grilled lamb/chicken slices (leftovers from lunch?), served with cheap factory fries. The pickles were edible and the other side was missing (I don’t hold that against them during Grand Opening). $14
Gallabah Shrimp – a “stir fry” of onion, bell peppers and canned shrimp, served on Minute Rice, with a side of defrosted Gordon Food Service mixed “steamed” vegetables. $14
Appetizer Combo – decent standard baba ghanoush and hummous…plus a simple but surprisingly respectable fattoush parsley salad. $9
(prices and spellings are approximate, because I didn’t have access to a takeout menu, due to shortage)
The atmosphere was quite nice (upscale for Warren), and the co-owner Fadi and my waitress Becky didn’t hurt it, either. The other co-owner, John, is the chef. If any of you are courageous enough to try out this place, and order moussaka, please post a report. Cheers.
