Ale Mary's (Baltimore)

baltoellen | Jan 29, 2006 05:02 PM

After hearing our neighbors talk about this place as their quick weeknight dinner type of joint, we decided to give it a shot last night.

It's has a pretty typical bar food menu, but a bit expanded. We started with the crab soup, which was a special, and one of the very best bowls of the stuff I've had in a long, long, time. I never actually think there is quite enough crab meat in crab soup, but this one was generous enough, in a nice tomato base, with spicing more subtle than usual, but still perfect.

Mr Baltoellen had a special, chicken and dumplings. A large bowl of mushy, chicken-y stew, with a few small dumpling lumps....not too bad, but definitely not something we'd order again.

I got another special, blackend ahi tuna over ceaser salad. The salad was the generic romaine lettuce with gloppy cesear dressing, and parm...but the tuna was spicy and perfectly cooked.... And, they didn't skimp on the tuna, either.

Although we didn't try the more normal bar food offerings, I have to say that the wings looked amazing, and people were ordering "pigs in blankets"--really--which was also featured on their menu. We also talked to someone who raved about their burgers...and it turns out Monday is burger and boh night...a definite reason to return...

The beer on tap selection was top-notch.

And, you can't beat the name for cuteness!
