I ate at Martinique's for the first time friday night, and was quite happy with it. The mussels, while not in the classic wine/garlic mix, were large, plump, and soaking in a wine/garlic/cream/sausage elixir. Let me reiterate: Cream. Sausage. (in fact Mergeux). I wanted to drink the rest that was still left after all the bread was gone. The caribbean shrimp main dish was fantastic, perfect shrimp texture, and my flat iron steak diane was really good, although the mashed potatoes were eh. It was much better than I'd been led to believe on this board, especially since there seem to be strong proponents of Dante's Kitchen and Mat n Naddie's, at both of which I've had forgettable experiences. Plus the patio was really lovely, and surprisingly quiet. Great uptown outdoor dining option.
I was actually angling to go to Marisol Friday night but it didn't work out. I found a new weapon in my quest to get the SO to go, though, on Marisol's website: a $20 off any entree coupon. Obviously I will use this to lure my cheap dining partner there, and once he's as addicted as you all say he will be, we'll pay like regulars.
