We have now been twice to the buffet. When we went at 5:30 it was great. Rice still ha3 peculiar taste but otherwise lotsa good stuff. When we went at 7 it was a little more hectic, and some dishes were low. It was very busy too. They cooked and brought out nan. It seemed fine to us. And there was chai at the buffet; that was nice. We also brought beer (they still have no liquor license.) We decided we like the buffet better than off the menu, and prefer Red Hook Curry House off the menu.
Lucia, we really like 40 West (thanks for your report) and the Beekman Arms too, for different sorts of food. The Beekman Arms isn't too touristy on weekdays, esp this time of year. Calico is good too but not comfortable--hate those kind of chairs. Great pastry though. Gigi's we find overpriced; not planning another trip there unless friends want to go there.
