African Jamaican Vegetarian in Berkeley

Anne | May 23, 200507:05 PM     3

My vegetarian daughter and I had a wonderful lunch at a new restaurant in Berkeley. I'm not positive what the official name is, but the sign says African Jamaican Vegetarian. It's on Adeline in Berkeley next to Marmot Mountain Works which is at 3049 Adeline. The place is tiny but charming and plays nice loud reggae music. I had the tofu patty with a pretty mild jerk sauce on a whole wheat bun. My daughter had a combination plate (I forget the name) with really great rice and peas, some curried tofu, and a salad. We shared an order of incredible fried plaintains. They have a lot of special drinks and smoothies, and I had a ginger drink that was very spicey, and my daughter had a sorrel drink which tasted like cranberry juice. Both were incredibly refreshing. I have to say that I've never been to Jamaica or anywhere in Africa, so I have no idea how authentic the food is, but it was awfully good, which is what's important to me. Plus, the very regal male chef is gorgeous!!!
