Going to Tokyo during the first full week of January and initially arranged with my hotel concierge to reserve Hakkoku for dinner. I ate with Chef Sato when he was at Tokami a couple of years back. Had a good experience eating there, especially with being able to speak with the chef. That was the main reason I chose Hakkoku. After reading some reviews of it and doing additional research, I have some second thoughts and considering changing my arrangements. The following is the list of places I'm considering:
-Sushi Sho Saito
From what I recall, and correct me if I'm wrong, with the exception of Keita and Ryusuke all of the above have chefs or apprentices that can converse in English. I'm leaning towards these places. At the same time, I've heard great things with Keita and Ryusuke, especially in terms of C/P. These two also seem to be recommended in the Tokyo sushi posts.
In addition to myself, my brother will be joining me and it will be his first time at an high-end sushi restaurant. He's been with me on past Japanese trips and we've both went to restaurants where English wasn't spoken. That being said, I want him to have a complete and enjoyable high-end sushi experience.
