About the Ads Atop

Jim Leff | Jan 24, 2004 12:19 PM

Please don't reply here...I'm just interrupting to briefly note that I apologize for the appearance of ads for specific restaurants. I'm glued to my computer, picking off the errant restaurant ad sneaking in with the other Google ads (we can manually block stuff, though there's a couple hour lag time).

This is an experiment. Hopefully the restaurant ads are finite in number and it's just a matter of building up a full block list. We're also talking to Google about a tech solution. If you spot an ad for a specific restaurant anywhere on the site, please click the link, grab the URL, and send to webmaster@chowhound.com so we can build the block list further.

If you'd like to discuss, please see the ad discussions on our Site Talk board. Our server bill this month was $3700 (big bandwidth charges), and we're counting on these ads to at least partially bail us out...and working diligently to deflect the occasional restaurant ad that creeps in. You can also help via link below.

Again: PLEASE address the issue only on Site Talk so we can keep this board as locally chowcentric as possible.

ciao
