We're planning to make ice cream tomorrow; I already have the cream mixture chilling. We have some fine strawberries that my mother in law picked and flash-froze (with sugar) several weeks ago. I was planning to thaw, drain, and chop them before adding them to the cream mixture.
Two questions: (1) Will these frozen (as opposed to fresh) berries work OK for this purpose? (2) When is the appropriate time to add them--before we start cranking, or when the ice cream is already getting mushy (and how far along)? I'm wondering whether, if we add them at the beginning, they will all just sink to the bottom.
