Thank you to everyone that gave me information for my trip to Richmond. We ended up going to Acacia in Richmond for dinner on Friday night. There were only 4 other parties...unusual we thought for a Friday night, but that was to our advantage.
For appetizers, we had the Chincoteaque Oysters with Jalapeno Salsa. The oysters were good, not great and the salsa was not hot at all. The smoked bluefish with slaw was very good, enjoyed the layers of flavors and thought that this was a hit. The tuna with orange, avocado etc. in a citrus vinagarette was good, not great...maybe I am spoiled by the fresh ahi tuna we get here in California..not sure but the flavor was a bit bland.
Our dinners were very good. The vennison was excellent and enjoyed immensely, tender, a slight taste of gameyness that was just right and the sauce complemented it well. The crabcakes on grits was finished completely. First time I have ever had grits and if this is grits, I could eat it everyday. Had a hint of sausage, asparagus and bacon sauce...maybe all that was added in made it. The scallops on homemade gnocchi and cannelini beans was very good as well...so delicious and the scallops were cooked to perfection. Desserts...they were good, but not memorable.
I would go back there again. We went to Millie's on Monday and unfortunately, they're closed! How sad for us and that was our last night there. I've heard so much about Millie's from everyone and hopefully, that will be our first stop next time back to Virginia.
