9th St. Market: I confess: I went for the fireplace...

My Lava Lamp | Dec 22, 2004 09:24 AM

Had heard some nice reviews about Ninth Street Market. Went last night and it was a full house--they were turning away a number of couples who stopped in without a reservation.

We were lucky enough to get a table right near the wood-burning fireplace (nice!).

The food was good enough, but none of the dishes was outstanding or memorable. Two of us had the pecan-crusted catfish; one had the cod. Also tried a few appetizers.

Service was "good enough". It seems like the staff is just getting adjusted to it being a busy place, so they were looking a bit frazzled. (Only a few tables here.)

This is the kind of place that if you happen to be in the neighborhood (E. 9 & 2nd Ave), you can check it out. But not good enough to go out of your way for.

I'm off to looking for more fireplace restaurants with great food and service to match...
