I just dined at 99 Miles to Philly, 94 Third Av, which New York Magazine said has the best Philly cheese steak in NYC. I ordered the steak, with traditional Cheez Whiz. Thin strips of meat were grilled on a counter grill topped with traditional Cheez Whiz and onions, served on a long roll from a small bakery in Brooklyn. I couldn't taste the meat, though, everything mooshed together in a big gloppy mess. A very GOOD gloppy mess, though. Was it the best? I wouldnt know, it was my first. But I'd be slightly disappointed if it were. It certainly wasn't MY Platonic ideal of cheese steak. So my question is, IS it the best? How about Carl's?
