For my inaugural post, I would love some recommendations on our current food itinerary (and your favorite food joints) on an upcoming trip along I-59 and I-10.
We'll be traveling from east TN to San Antonio, TX with stops tentatively planned in Birmingham and Lafayette. We will be on a bit of a time crunch but DH always likes to stop for a good bite! Think local, moderately casual.
Early/Mid afternoon stop in Birmingham: looking for a quick meal or snack, as we'll only be two hours into the trip.
Current front runners include El Barrio, Carriagan's Public House, and Urban Standard Donuts.
Late dinner (probably 8-9 pm) in Lafayette: Looking for some Louisiana flavor plus outdoor seating and/or live music.
Current front runners include Old Tyme Grocery, Johnson's Boucaniere, or Prejean's... but I'm worried that we'll be getting in too close to closing time. Would love some recs on Cajun or Creole joints in the area that stay open a bit later.
weekend AM Breakfast: roughly in or between Lafayette and Lake Charles, looking for something open around 7 am.
Current front runner is Hub City Diner.
weekend midday/lunch: roughly in or near Houston. I'm at a total loss for where to go, as I've heard great things about the Houston culinary scene and hate to limit it to one meal.
Current front runners include Liberty Kitchen and Oyster Bar, Hubcap Grill and Beer Market, Luling City Market.
I'll be in San Antonio for a few days after, have not yet researched SAT CH threads but always open to suggestions.
Well, Chowhounds? How does it look? Bonus points for anyone who can direct us to some local coffee and/or dessert joints along this route.
