50 North--a Possibly More than Worthy Successor to Fondi's

PAO | Jan 5, 201107:36 PM

Had dinner at 50 North tonight. They've been open only a few weeks, so they're still shaking out the kinks. Mixed reviews, but definitely worth another visit. I had their house mixed greens--good quality mixed greens with beautiful radish slices--for a moment I thought it was thinly sliced kiwi fruit, but a rather bland dressing. My partner, who is a Caesar salad fan, was happy with his salad. My salmon was a real winner. Perfectly cooked in a bed of slow cooked leeks and fennel with a few tart cherries--it was one of the best salmon dishes I've ever had after I'd added a little salt. My companion had gluten free fish and chips, which were tasty but nothing exceptional. Service was friendly, but still needs a little work--we didn't get our bread until after we had finished our salads.

This is definitely a restaurant worth another visit to see how they do with the rest of their menu and as their kitchen and wait staff get accustomed to the space.
