I-40 Recommendation (Lebanon, TN)

About a mile north of exit 239 is an EXCELLENT new restaurant that I stumbled upon last night: Lil' Paul's Smokehouse. With "Smokehouse" in the name, we just had to try it and were not disappointed. My wife ordered the BBQ sandwich plate with "fried taters" and white beans. The BBQ was very moist and was not drowned in sauce like other places. The "fried taters" reminded me of homefries and were very tasty. I had the brisket plate with fries and baked beans. The brisket was very tender, with the consistancy of pot roast that had been simmering all day. Each meat had a smokey flavor but not overpowering. Just enough to make you want more. The absolute best side dish was the deep fried corn on the cob. Crispy on the outside and sweet and juicy on the inside. As far as the kids, they offer a smaller version of the BBQ sandwich with fries and a drink or chicken nuggets. I've heard good things about the ribs, but that will have to wait until the next trip. The banana pudding was straight out of the oven warm and tasted like grandma's. The entire facility is nonsmoking (except for the meats, of course) and the appearance is very clean but rustic. The only complaint would be the "processed" sweet tea that they had. Overall, a quaint little BBQ place, only 30 minutes east of Nashville, that will definately get more business from me.

p.s. When I was there, they told me about a link where you can get a $20.00 gift certificate for only $10.00 for a limited time only. Eat up!
