Just got back from a long weekend in South Beach..hit a few high end places..and a few ethnic spots...all in all the food was excellent. Started with lunch at Nemos..long been a favorite of mine..a roast duck sandwich and Vietnamese beef salad..great food, great service in a beautiful garden. Dinner at the bar at China Grill..a szechuan beef that reminded me of a dish at Chinois on Main in LA..and a scallop appetizer..again service was friendly and professional. Next day was a Cuban pork sandwich at David's Cafe..great sandwich at a Collins Ave. Cuban diner..late lunch at Joes Stone Crab..pricey but always great. Saturday, we went to Larios on the Beach..probably the low point as far as chow, but a nice spot to watch the world go by on a rainy day..dinner was a veal cheek app braised in rioja over a risotto at the bar at Wish..highly recommended. Today we found a Peruvian place on Washington..Chalan on the Beach...had a seafood and rice dish that was loaded with squid, octopus, shrimp, and fish in a light tomato sauce...and a braised brisket of beef in a green sauce..both excellent.
The food was all delicious and we were also struck by how friendly and professional the service was. I know South Beach sometimes gets a bad rap for service but we encountered none of that..no attitude.
