Not sure if this is in the correct forum or not.
I consider myself a fairly accomplished 'hobby cook' -I cook often and everyone enjoys what I cook. I am pretty good at figuring things out on my own and am knowledgable about complicated recipes and techniques. But sometimes the I can't seem to manage the most simple things. Last night, I had some really good leftover bacon. I decided to do an interesting little variation on devilled eggs. I chopped up some pickles, got out the mayo, a couple of different mustards, pepper, the piping bag, finely chopped the bacon. Boiled the eggs. Ok, here comes the problem. I totally bungle peeling the eggs and break them and part of the peel comes off. When I slice them in half, they are just beyond medium cooked - not hard boiled at all. Crud.
Does anyone else do this? Succeed a with complicated omelet and then burn the toast? Make a perfect roast and sauce and then the potatoes are gummy? I was so mad at myself that I just chopped the eggs up and sprinkled them the bacon and some butter and salt and pepper and ate them. It was good, but NOT what I wanted to make!!!
